Top 10 "Must Know" Opera Songs
This is just my selection of the top ten "must-know" opera songs for newcomers to the genre (or lovers of opera who want to listen to a couple of classics).
I've tried to be fair and spread the list across Italian, French and German pieces. You will also find arias (solo acts), duets (two person acts) and chorus numbers (featuring the full cast), although you will probably start to see a pattern with certain singers * cough * Pavarotti * cough* .
10. Una Furtiva Lagrima - from l'Elisir D'Amore - featuring Luciano Pavarotti (0.00)
9. Vide Cor Meum - from Hannibal - featuring Danielle Di Niese & Bruno Lazzaretti (4.48)
8. Un Bel Di Vedremo - from Madame Butterfly - featuring Maria Callas (8.40)
7. Duo des Fleurs (Flower Duet) - from Lakmé - featuring Sabine Devieilhe & Marianne Crebassa (13.20)
6. Libiamo, ne' lieti calici - from La Traviata - featuring Juan Diego Flórez & Diana Damrau (17.52)
5. La Donna è Mobile - from Rigoletto - featuring Luciano Pavarotti (21.01)
4. Der Hölle Rache kocht in meinem Herzen (Queen of the Night Aria) - from Die Zauberflöte (The Magic Flute) - featuring Diana Damrau (23.48)
3. Habanera - from Carmen - featuring Anna Caterina Antonacci (26.50)
2. Nessun Dorma - from Turandot - featuring Luciano Pavarotti (28.59)
1. O Mio Babbino Caro - from Gianni Schicchi - featuring Maria Callas (32.05)
To my fellow opera fans, please let me know if you think I've missed one (leave it in the comments below).
To my newcomers, welcome to the beautiful world of opera.

I love all arias in playlist and many more. 10 is not enough. I love all Verdi's , Donizetti's, Puccini's and Rossini's arias. They are so great. And many other composers too. I simply love opera very much. What is there not to love?
Excelente mente hermoso es una joya este repertorio Saludos cordiales y gracias por compartir
First, I love your list. It is solid, Second, I LOVE that you chose Anna Caterina Antonacci's Carmen. She is a favourite and always will be close to my heart. Her voice has been such a wonderful element in my life during highs and lows. Great list. Great choices. Cheers.
Sorry, Where is Nadir - Pearl Fishers?!
Thank you for this thought out list
Love this selection, but one small point, although the libretto to Vide Cor Meum is by Dante (Italian) the music is by an Irishman.
How can you leave out Maria Callas in Aida on March 7, 1951 when she brought the house down for all time or Jussi Bjorling in any number of roles?
If you could add the composer it will be perfect
SE ME PONEN LOS OJITOS AGUADOS 🥺🥺🥺🥺 PERO NO ESTOY TRISTE...ES QUE ME ABRUMAN LAS EMOCIONES...
Thank you for your moving list of opera. Being a 70' rock girl, now listening to classical music I never could grasp opera. Now I do, some of theses songs made me weep..
There are a few but Madam Butterfly has to be my favorite ❤❤❤

I don’t know anything about Opera songs. But I listen to it all the times. Relaxes me. I tried to learn but got confused even more. I wish I could understand it more. I am just thankful for these awesome people for their singing.
Well, where is Bellini?
Through the years these songs have penetrated with sweet but powerful strength the essence of my soul and make my heart vibrate every time I hear one of them. I am 86.
Callas and Pavarotti are beyond compare👏👏👏
Amazing 🎉❤🎉
There is an opera piece in the movie (most recent one) “Persuasion” in the scene where everyone is sitting in the recital hall and a woman begins to sing an aria... I can’t seem to find it at all. Does anyone know which aria it is... Persuasion 2022 based on Jane Austen’s 1817 novel.
Maria Callas….purity of Voice…..
I want to said thanks to God for listening all these beatiful arias
My mom took me to see Eugene Onegin at the Seattle Opera instead of me going to my high school prom and that was my first live performance that we have seen. Since then I've been hooked on opera and have been to several live operas with my mom and my dad has his favorite opera La Boheme with Australian from 1993.
It's LAGRIMA not LACRIMA. I saw Pavarotti sing this at a matinee with a bunch of students in 1988. He was phoning it in, presumable because he thought it was just a lot of old folks at the matinee and a buncha students. Still... even then his voice was superb. Completely unrivaled in my book.
Can't imagine a world without music. But I can imagine the world without rap.give me the classics any time.
Great selection.
4:02 I love the duet in the Pearl Fishers.
Beautiful ❤️
Ni Axe ni Udemy, segupi espantando clientes YT!
A fine group of choices
i started on rock and roll but opera is my best
from the ignorant people in the peanut gallery : THANKS for these gems !
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊
When I lived in New York, I often walked to the performance at the Met and took the bus home. I did this for some ten years. Now I am back in my native Germany, and am delighted that the Met has live transmissions from New York to Bremerhaven in the Moviehouse. The Met was an experience every time, but live transmissions from New York, with so many close-ups, ist also just fabulous.
Not a single aria by Wagner, no Wotans farewell?
newcomer here, not by interest, but by finally doing my research and crafting my indulgence. Thank you for the great start, I was surprised to recognized some.. though, i felt like maybe that would be expected due to their popularity. Thanks again for the warm welcome. My Favs: 8. Un Bel Di Vedremo - from Madame Butterfly - featuring Maria Callas, Una Furtiva Lagrima - from l'Elisir D'Amore - featuring Luciano Pavarotti (0.00) and 2. Nessun Dorma - from Turandot - featuring Luciano Pavarotti (28.59)
Please take Vide Cor Meum - from Hannibal - featuring Danielle Di Niese & Bruno Lazzaretti off the list. It insults your intelligence.
Dang these ads....the site is amazing tho
Thank you for posting, im 54 and just discovered Opera, i feel like ive missed so much but im in love with the world again. Beautiful music. I didn't know arias are what we call them too, thanks for sharing ❤
TPHaHPHaH SHYRYM (beautiful songs, in Hebrew). // SHLM & HaB (peace & love). The Name of the Creator is Hayah Asher Hayah, as what He told Moshah (Exodus 3:14), preserved in the Hebrew Scriptures. There is a curse to the G-o-d name (Isaiah 65:11-12), preserved in the Hebrew Scriptures. All followers of the Messiah are to do the 7 appointed times (Leviticus 23), but no more animal sacrifices, following the Crucifixion of the Messiah. We are now of the order of MLK TSDQ (King, righteous), to Whom ABRaHM tithed. Ask the Messiah to be your personal Savior. He said to him, I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me (John 14:6). ...for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of Hayah (Romans 3:23). The wages for sin is death but the gift of ALaHYM is Everlasting Life through Messiah Yahushgh our Master (Romans 6:23). That if you confess with your mouth the Master Yahushgh and believe in your heart that ALaHYM raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved (Romans 10:9). He Himself is an Atoning Offering for our sins, and not for ours only but also for all the world (1 John 2:2).
My beloved husband introduced me to opera and I will be forever grateful to him. He died on March 26th, and I'm in tears listening to this. Thank you .
May you be comforted, so sorry for your loss ❤
💔
Сочувствую вам... наверное, ваш муж просто объелся груш ... Это судьба всех сладкоежек ! Учитесь на его ошибках...
I am so sorry for your loss. What a beautiful way he left you for your both to connect. I am sure when you listen to this he is also listening and feeling it along side with you! MUCH LOVE TO YOU MY DEAR.
Oh I am sorry didn´t notice the caption.. 😅
i think no opera collection is complete without Schubert's Ave Maria...
As I grew my mom sang srmi. Prfessional for the local opra company, she was a soprsno but jad an incredible range, she used to practice every day and she also did popular music so talented the cruisee ship capyain wanted to sign her. My dad would not have it for hr would never see her agsin. I grew up with the zbeatles and rock and roll but still have a place in my hrsrt for opera.
You might also mention that arias are only solo performances ;-)
Muchas gracias por permitirme que escuche esta bella música!
What a great show to watch and listen to!E×cellent!
Life without Opera is no life.
I was but a child when my appreciation for this glorious music began! I'm now 64 years old and I can't get along without it!! It touches me like no other music!
"La mamma morta"
